Gunshots sound differently to me. A poem for today's prompt. :D

WHAT IS THE SOUND OF GUNSHOTS?

I wanted to hear nature’s croon

I wanted to hear nature’s croon Or witnessed fireworks and stars’ winking

I wanted to hear nature’s croon Or witnessed fireworks and stars’ winking But they gave us cacophony, anarchic tune

I wanted to hear nature’s croon Or witnessed fireworks and stars’ winking But they gave us cacophony, anarchic tune And golden flares of ammunition deafening.

But what is the sound of gunshot?

But what is the sound of gunshot? Is it the mechanical abrupt sound,

But what is the sound of gunshot? Is it the mechanical abrupt sound, That snarls with ferocity in a battle ground?

But what is the sound of gunshot? Is it the mechanical abrupt sound, That snarls with ferocity in a battle ground? Or is it more disturbing than that?

Because gunshots sound like death bells,

Because gunshots sound like death bells, Grief-stricken,

Because gunshots sound like death bells, Grief-stricken, maddening,

Because gunshots sound like death bells, Grief-stricken, maddening, tormenting

Because gunshots sound like death bells, Grief-stricken, maddening, tormenting It has the resonance of bereaved children’s wailing

Because gunshots sound like death bells, Grief-stricken, maddening, tormenting It has the resonance of bereaved children’s wailing Or the “dung-aw” chants of families despairing

It sounds like the enemies’ mirth

It sounds like the enemies’ mirth Aroused by irrational carnage

It sounds like the enemies’ mirth Aroused by irrational carnage Or the heavy breathing of a salvaged,

It sounds like the enemies’ mirth Aroused by irrational carnage Or the heavy breathing of a salvaged, Struggling to stay longer on Earth.

Will these gunshots, disparaging alarums

Will these gunshots, disparaging alarums Increasing decibels of sinister bangs of doom,

Will these gunshots, disparaging alarums Increasing decibels of sinister bangs of doom, Inspiration of elegy,

Will these gunshots, disparaging alarums Increasing decibels of sinister bangs of doom, Inspiration of elegy, Will ever hear our fervent plea?

NOTE: Some of you may be wondering about the term "dung-aw" mentioned in this poem. The "dung-aw" is a chant in free-verse by a bereaved person or his representative beside the corpse of the dead. This is being practiced by Ilocanos and Igorots in the Philippines. They recite their feelings, emotions and thoughts in poetic rhythm.

The chant may also include the life, sufferings and sacrifices of the dead person. - - - So, that's it! I hope this information has been of any help to you. :D

Thank you for reading! :)
