A poem about someone who has recently lost a loved one yet remembers a single event that always makes them smile and just for a moment forget their grief. I hope you like it,

Gone

Gone

I lay a rose on your grave

as the rain runs down

the grey stone through

neatly engraved letters.

In a wool overcoat

with a checked pattern

the collar turned up,

I struggle to focus

liquids blend as they

hug the contours of my face

across my soaked lips

and falling from my bowed chin

for just a second I recall

how we danced in the rain

outside your mothers house

each splash made you giggle

and that perfect smile lit the sky

into many colours

turning a black day into blue
