I was finally, finally over you. We were both hurting, but you got away.

Anything but Starting Fresh

by chloeblue2

It was late

We were tired

You held me

And we smiled

But then you kissed me

And it honestly stopped me in my tracks

There were thousands of questions

Buzzing through my head

Why now? Why me?

What about your girlfriend?

The timing is always off for us

Then again there's not really an "us" at all

"Our secret"

Words of yours that continually cause my heart to fall

I thought with our friendship

With our amicable platonic love

We could finally have our fresh start

That maybe we could rise above

Those willingly ignorant feelings of mine

But this has to be the end Enough is enough

I can't do this anymore

The secrets The guilt

But then every time I see you

I can't help but hope

That we will do

Anything but start fresh

Is it even possible for any relationship to start fresh? You can glue a broken glass together but you will always know it was broken. This poem is bittersweet and evokes an ethos for the people who have suffered. Great job.
