On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Here is a small poem where I have tried to throw light on their sufferings.

A WAR FOR PEACE?

The day was pleasant and the air was fresh . I was sitting in the garden enjoying the breeze , sipping the tea slowly ,

The day was pleasant and the air was fresh . I was sitting in the garden enjoying the breeze , sipping the tea slowly , how much more better it could be?

Then my 5 years old little daughter came running to me and started describing her future plans to me.

Then my 5 years old little daughter came running to me and started describing her future plans to me. She enumerated how she would grow up to become a doctor

I smiled and felt proud , As I opened my arms to embrace her there was sudden flash .....

I smiled and felt proud , As I opened my arms to embrace her there was sudden flash .....the brightest flash I had ever seen.

It took me time to realize that all my clothes were burned . I looked for my daughter but she was no where to be seen.

Then I looked down and to my horror I saw bones lying ...making a perfect skeleton of a little human

Then I looked down and to my horror I saw bones lying ...making a perfect skeleton of a little human , with melted flesh surrounding it........my tiny girl was gone.

BUT before I could mourn I felt a sudden pain

BUT before I could mourn I felt a sudden pain as if something was tearing me apart

I looked at my naked self

I looked at my naked self , not only my clothes but my skin was also burned

I looked around and could see nothing but debris and dust swirling around .

I moved out and was shocked to see that I was not alone

As I saw some suffering and some lying dead under collapsed walls ,

As I saw some suffering and some lying dead under collapsed walls , I wished if I could be the latter one

I thought how much more worse it could be and then......

......Nagasaki was bombed.
