The door slammed shut.
They were out there.
I was in here. With the shadows.
They laughed at me from outside the door.
The shadows crept towards me.
I shut my eyes Clutched the blankets, Hoped
The shadows advanced, baring their teeth.
They grasped at my candle Smothered it with their hands.
I grabbed it back.
They grinned at me, saying nothing.
I held the candle close, Shielding it
They caught it anyway.
But light triumphed over darkness.
And death triumphed over all.
