Machines (Part 2)

In a desolate corner

Of an unlit room

You hear the quiet sobs

Of the girl

There’s blood on the ground

More dried stiffly to her face

You can see she’s in pain

The whole room reeks of grief

But she greets you with a red knife

Draws strict lines in the sand

Do not cross, she says

You hardly recognize her

As you talk to her

The hostility settles

But she is an empty shell

She’s lost everything

The guilt haunts you

She spots the cogs

Working in your other machines

The pieces of you

You could never give to her

And her machine

For the millionth time

She asks for the cogs

She asks you to fix it

Desperate

She wants the machine to work

Its all she had

But there is no machine anymore

Its long gone
