Soon as it dropped, this hollow, this void befell my soul permanently this time around. The words literally sunk in letter by letter with a bold font as if to reinforce it all again.
This problem is more prevalent in African countries, it’s seen as a taboo for any woman to be a divorcee.
African women are victims, patriarchal culture has taught the woman to forget herself, her identity, and taught her that, that of her husband's is of priority.
For them it’s difficult to have imagine a life without their ‘husband’ or better still the courage to know and understand that a man doesn’t define them and that even after marriage has ended, life continues.
A woman’s life should not be entirely defined by her husband’s! African women get so tied up in their husband’s life to the point that they forget to live theirs.
This’ quite a sad and unfortunate story.
I wish it weren’t the case but as I seat here, in the quiet of the night, thousands of thoughts going through my mind, I wish women,
most especially African women would realise their worth and know that it’s okay to be a divorcee and that life surely does continue and of course it gets better!
