Reality is a mirror and the day is magic.

Sunflower

Reality is a mirror.

Reality is a mirror. This virtual world shatters it into a million memories of failed fantasies,

Reality is a mirror. This virtual world shatters it into a million memories of failed fantasies, but I was never whole, was I?

As another world loads and lingers,

As another world loads and lingers, reality washes away like wine.

As another world loads and lingers, reality washes away like wine. A headset is a hideout in heaven,

As another world loads and lingers, reality washes away like wine. A headset is a hideout in heaven, a blindfold of bliss interlaced in imagination and ills.

Feelings fill me with sunflower sensations,

Feelings fill me with sunflower sensations, my head dangling with demons and despair.

Yet, the dark dares me to savour the starlight

Yet, the dark dares me to savour the starlight and hunt my heart through the night.

If there is a truth to us, is it meant to be found?

If there is a truth to us, is it meant to be found? This virtual world shatters my shackles too, after all.

The truth twinkles afar in this void,

The truth twinkles afar in this void, dressed and drenched in dreams fluttering

The truth twinkles afar in this void, dressed and drenched in dreams fluttering like a legion of kites clothed in kisses and paper planes lavished in love letters.

The darkness disintegrates as they stitch a world of wonder,

The darkness disintegrates as they stitch a world of wonder, the sky’s sunset glimmer melting like butter into euphoria,

The darkness disintegrates as they stitch a world of wonder, the sky’s sunset glimmer melting like butter into euphoria, one end spilling in citrine and the other lush in lavender.

Is it possible to taste butterflies and blushes?

Is it possible to taste butterflies and blushes? In this virtual reality, I brush a portrait with my heart and hope.

We were eighteen then, embraced in exuberance and a halcyon haze.

We were eighteen then, embraced in exuberance and a halcyon haze. In sunrays that tasted of syrup and sugar, we cuddled in a huddle of heartbeats.

We were eighteen then, embraced in exuberance and a halcyon haze. In sunrays that tasted of syrup and sugar, we cuddled in a huddle of heartbeats. Silence sprinkled over us like glitter, caressed with the chitter of summer songbirds.

We were eighteen then, though.

We were eighteen then, though. And this reality is different.

Back then, we sunk into affectionate arms like the sea cradled the shore in a hush of tickles.

Back then, we sunk into affectionate arms like the sea cradled the shore in a hush of tickles. Now, I pause like a statue between two houses, hued in shades of honeydew.

Invisible, I wait for this mystery to play like a cinema through the sundown.

“Thanks for hanging out with me today, Addy.

“Thanks for hanging out with me today, Addy. I really wish I could stay a bit longer, but I’ll be leaving early tomorrow morning,” you say.

“Don’t you want to stay a bit longer?

“Don’t you want to stay a bit longer? Look at the soulful soliloquizing sunset with me?” I respond.

“Your poetry really makes me smile.

“Your poetry really makes me smile. Sometimes.

“Your poetry really makes me smile. Sometimes. But I can’t.

I’m not looking forward to this either, you know.

I’m not looking forward to this either, you know. I want to wake up to your window

I’m not looking forward to this either, you know. I want to wake up to your window and skip down the shoreline with you like we always do.

But that’s not tomorrow.

Addy, you know that not everything will change, though.

Addy, you know that not everything will change, though. That sunflower down there will always wake up to your smile and blossom to your heart.

Addy, you know that not everything will change, though. That sunflower down there will always wake up to your smile and blossom to your heart. Not everything has to be sad.”

Your finger flickers in my direction then,

Your finger flickers in my direction then, outstretched in your sapphire sweater.

But the dreams pour out from this pastel pleasure,

But the dreams pour out from this pastel pleasure, ripping the rapture from this fantasy photograph

But the dreams pour out from this pastel pleasure, ripping the rapture from this fantasy photograph as I force myself to turn the headset and the moment off.

In a blackout, I am left with a question:

Why did you call me a sunflower?

(Aside) So, I decided to write again on a strong impulse! :D I am really happy with this piece and actually quite tired right now, as it took some time to write. :)

To make it clear, this is the first part of my VR story! I will be doing a continuous story instead of an anthology, but I wanted to have a nice beginning before I get to some other ideas that I have.

In case it isn't clear in the piece -- and please tell me in the comments, if this is the case -- the main protagonist, Addy, is going through something that should be a memory, but it's different from how they remember it and it's instead a new moment created in the virtual world.

I want to experiment with more abstract imagery, but I decided to hold back for this one part. Things will get crazier and I want to add complexity to the relationship between these characters, instead of making this a simple romance story. I have some ideas so far! :)

If you have any feedback on this part, please let me know! I want to make sure they get better and better, and also, don't expect them as often as the wait between the prologue and this first part.

To make a clear difference between the parts of this story and the AI story, too, I will be inserting (Level #) into the titles of these pieces after a few days. I am such a geek, sorry! :D (And to clarify, I inserted Part # in the titles for the AI parts, so that's why.)

I am also in the middle of my exams, so sorry for not reading any of your stories! I will be back after this Saturday, though, and please message me if there are any stories of yours that you would specifically like me to read! :)

Also, if I post this at an irregular, time, I might have gotten up in the middle of the night to post this, so don't worry. :))

Otherwise, take care, Commaful, and thank you all for reading! I hope that you liked this story, and sorry if it's a bit long! Love you all, and keep on writing! <3
