A piece based on the current political climate, social news, and my own personal reflections. Thank you for reading, and please feel free to leave any constructive criticisms! They're greatly appreciated.

The Righteous People

The situation is live-or-die, do-or-die, and who should I... Trust but the law enforcement enlisted to protect me? An unarmed person, A guiltless person.

Only equipped with the ammunition in my mouth, The statistics in my brain, The perspective of the sane, The gruesome media, Of humans.

Humans just like me, The only difference but the colors of our skin, Becoming the marker condemning the one darker, To death and another, To play as spectator.

Helpless in the face of rows and rows, Of blinding badges and surprise barrages, Immovable objects, Against an unstoppable force, A brutal reckoning, An exhaustive upheaval.

The situation is live-or-die, do-or-die, and who should I... Trust but the honorable people around me? The unarmed people, The guiltless people.

The people fighting brutality, With striking morality, The people campaigning for true freedom.

Not the “freedom” of outings with no required masks, Not the “freedom” of abusing the law to your favor, Not the “freedom” of knowing you can ignore, The cries of the unjust dying, the innocent poor.

The kind of poor in terms of opportunities, The kind of poor in terms of equalities, The kind of poor that are threatened everyday by bigotry, The kind of poor that know true empathy.

The situation is live-or-die, do-or-die, and who should I... Trust but the honorable people advocating for me? The unarmed people, The righteous people.
