I've learned about GloPoWriMo for the first time today, and will try it out. I'm a day late though :)

Mom, When I...

Mom, When I... Shannon L.

Mom, when I exhaled my first breath and cries escaped my mouth,

Mom, when I exhaled my first breath and cries escaped my mouth, you've shed tears full of emotions of an ocean's depth.

Mom, when I started to explore the world with knees and hands scanning the floor,

Mom, when I started to explore the world with knees and hands scanning the floor, you've found yourself in ecstasy; happiness so grand that it twirled.

Mom, when I, called out your name for the first time and repeated it after I've felt your smile

Mom, when I, called out your name for the first time and repeated it after I've felt your smile, you've lived in bliss at that moment every second was simply sublime.

Mom, when I told you that one plus one equals two and learned to spell my name,

Mom, when I told you that one plus one equals two and learned to spell my name, you've clapped your hands in pride amazed at how much I grew.

Mom, when I stayed up late many nights and my arms memorized the weight of books,

Mom, when I stayed up late many nights and my arms memorized the weight of books, you've cheered me on supporting me with all your might.

Mom, when I threw my graduation cap in the air and I was off to a new chapter in my life,

Mom, when I threw my graduation cap in the air and I was off to a new chapter in my life, you've hugged me tight sending me all of your warmth and care.

Mom, soon I'll be throwing another cap in the air and I'm not quite sure what steps to take next,

Mom, soon I'll be throwing another cap in the air and I'm not quite sure what steps to take next, although we've been many years a million miles apart, I still find myself longing for your hug of care.

Mom, then I look back at my firsts that I've shared with you,

Mom, then I look back at my firsts that I've shared with you, thinking about a reason how I've got this far; I think of your heart that bursts with love.

Mom, when I was prompted to write a poem about "reason" I thought of you,

Mom, when I was prompted to write a poem about "reason" I thought of you, a reason for my being and growth I carry your love throughout all seasons.

Shoutout to @stevewaldrop. It's from him that I got familiar with GloPoWriMo (Global Poetry Writing Month). I hope to be writing a poem each day for 30 days.
