Summer People

Hair. Permanently dancing, stuck to faces. Bleached by the sun and cased in salt and sweat. Tamed by hats and braids, but always free.

Faces. Freckled, both red and brown. Creased from squinting, streaked with sweat. Summer stubble. Rough but welcoming.

Wrists. Decorated, adorned, on show. Bracelets moving steadily up the arm. Memories and friendships held onto in the form of braided strands and beads. Watch tans, though you need not know the time. Hold onto them until the snow comes.

Feet. Finally able to breathe. Five toes, chipped polish, dirty and calloused, but strong. Taking you to summer places.
