For my best friend

Dear Sasha

Dear Sasha,

I'm sorry I can't be with you

but more so,

I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when I could

I can't imagine

what it's like to wait

hours after hours on a leash

just to see my face (for five minutes or less)

I get tired of everything around me

I'd rather be alone in my room

I often forget, too much I admit

that we're everything to you

Sometimes I get lost in your eyes

I see the universe expand

for a moment I forget to exist

and the walls that preach duality collapse

A soul dwells in your deep brown eyes

she holds a mirror for me to see

if I could zoom in on my eyes

maybe I can see what your soul looks like

Your unconditional love transcends

my curiosity for your soul's anthropomorphic physicality

it's simply my way of saying

I never knew the color brown could be that pretty

If you could read my letter to you

I mean, letters

you might be disappointed at me

but please know that I'm looking at your picture

and longing for our reunion more than anything

more than everything

Dear Sasha,

I'm sorry I can't be with you

but more so,

I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when I could
