I emerge from the familiar darkness
like a babe from the womb. I stumble toward freedom’s beacon, learning to walk on my own again with neither ball nor chain.
The voice of my captor
echoes in my mind; a siren beckoning me back to my life of old. But I blaze forth. This is my outright refusal to give in.
I plunge head-first into a cold sea of uncertainty
to wash the stains of past regrets from my skin. I resurface, hungering for a fresh perspective, inhaling greedily; a breath of renewed life.
I am free now, unrestrained.
This is my liberation.
