I sniffed in the fresh, clean, fall air. Autumn. My favorite season of the year. Leaves changing red, yellow, orange.
An adorable furry squirrel scampered across the street as I crossed behind it. Everything about Fall I loved. The traditions, the weather, the animals, the scents, everything.
Just as I was about to flashback to all my favorite things to do in Fall, my bestie Nara grabbed my arm and pulled me across the street before a black Audi nearly ran me over!
"Maple! That car almost killed you! Stop daydreaming and please walk! I know it's fall but please." She exclaimed.
"Sorry. You know how I get when it's Autumn. Come on let's go I can't wait to get on the road!" I yell louder than I expected. Nara looked at me and laughed. Seconds later I joined her.
"Don't get too excited we still have to wait for Harper and Sparrow to get back from their Philadelphia trip." She replied. My heart sunk. I had forgotten about that.
Harper and Sparrow go to a different school than Nara and I, which means that they get back from their trip Friday night when we got back Wednesday night.
As we crossed through the woods diagonally to get to my house I listened closely to the sound of the crunching leaves under our feet. Crush, cromp, crush, cromp and so on.
Every so often a sploot when you stepped in a muddy section of the forest. I didn't particularly like to get my shoes wet and dirty, but I was not like Nara.
She was constantly skimming the ground for a dry spot to land her feet in. We crossed another street and one more until we reached my house on Oak Lane.
As I stumbled through my backpack to grab my keys Nara looked around my house.
"I have been to your house like a million times. I almost think that I know the layout better than my own home!' she said with a laugh.
"Got them!" I scream, revealing the reddish colored keys from my front pocket. Nara fiddled with her hair.
"I mean, we walk to your house everyday you'd think by now you would stop losing them already!"
"Well you would stop losing them, I never stop losing things. That's just the clumsy me you know." I say with a smile.
"Come on in I am so parched!" As I open the door the smell of new wood fills the air. My mom's favorite candle scent. It's a little odd but I happen to like it.
Nara always says that I should get cinnamon because of how much I like fall but I feel like I am so used to the wood.
We hung out sweatshirts on the deck to dry from the light rain and put our backpacks inside on the table.
