It started as a poem about my last love and ended as a letter to my daughter.

I couldn't reach deeper than this right now.

I was their daughter -

I know what it was

I know what it was that hurt her the most:

I know what it was that hurt her the most: No one cared to see

I know what it was that hurt her the most: No one cared to see what was going on

They couldn't

I try not to,

I try not to, I really do...

I try not to, I really do... I want to scream

but nothing's there

How far back did that pain go?

How many generations must you seep through to get it?

more than I could take

I never stood a chance

I never stood a chance I can tell you that much

Whatever had her

Whatever had her did not care about fairness

When it seemed like it was all lost, I doubled down

It did not make a difference

When I did not have anything else to offer,

When I did not have anything else to offer, I borrowed

It didn't make a dent

My life is now reigned by fear

and I like it

it's expensive, but

I feel alive ALL the time

and I pray

a lot

because I know something

If I work as hard as I can and speak my truth in the best way that I know

I will again know a life that vastly outranks mine

and when the time comes, I will have the opportunity to offer myself in sacrifice

to give you a fighting chance
