Lakshmi is helping in writing an essay for her brother. She is not particularly happy about it but she owes him for last night's him doing her shift of dishes so she have to do it. It's not like she doesn't enjoy writing, it's just that she is not particularly fond of the topic about student life as she studied from home. Her dad entered the room and started yelling at her for not tying up her hair. He said, "I don't know why I gave birth to a girl like you. You never wear accessories and stop cutting your hair it is wrong for women to cut their hair." Her brother Rohan from another room asked, "why is it wrong to cut her hair dad? It's comfortable for girls these days and Akka loves her hair like that. I suggested her to cut her hair btw, I know I am pro and look at her how beautiful she looks!" Dad, unpleased with that response, bitterly said, "you all will pay consequences for not listening to the elders. It became fashion for you to question everything we say!" Rohan wondered, "I don't know dad if she feels good and comfortable then why should she compromise? It's just hair." Dad got annoyed at this point and said, "she is a girl known for patience and compromise if she can't compromise then future will be tough for her. Don't be fooled by those movies. They show any thing just for the sake of their business. Nothing will happen in real life as they showed in that film 'thappad'. It's NORMAL for men to have a bit ego and NORMAL to be short tempered because of all the stress. They made a big deal out of it. Making women feel sorry for themselves to earn money... disgusting!" Lakshmi is pale now.... through all the argument she is telling her brother Rohan to go to his room as it is becoming huge thing out of her hair which is stupid. But now she blurted out "If my husband slaps me will you support me dad? Or if Rohan slaps his wife what will you do?" Dad laughed and started babbling about responsibility and patience. He said, "If it becomes unbearable then you should protest, there is difference between one slap and getting killed haha. As per your brother it's their family matter and I am not gonna get involved." Rohan and Lakshmi looked at each other in disbelief. It's not like they didn't see that coming but it's still painful to hear that from their dad. Lakshmi slowly said, "I can bare any thing till I die dad but I refuse to bare. It made me speechless how you normalised violence and men having short temper. You couldn't say 'I will be there for you' when I asked you about me suffering from domestic violence." Her dad left the room muttering stuff about being displeased with his children and them being spoilt and arguing with elders. Lakshmi turned to Rohan and said, "well go make some soup for me if you want me to get you A+ for your essay writing." Rohan mockingly said, "Don't you dare to hurt my normal male ego but you suck at cooking so I will make soup for you out of generosity." Lakshmi laughed and went back to complete her work. Those two know they really can't change anyone's mind and these pointless arguments happen all the time. But it is a relief how they successfully created their version of normal life where they do things because 'they want to' and not because "they have to" and triggering people for baseless points is always fun and it makes them feel smart.
