I’m a tree
Still standing in unfamiliar field
I yearn to move on and explore
However, I know I’m rooted here
No matter how far the winds lead me
I’ll always be rooted
My roots never change but I do
If you strip my bark you’d see
The rings tell the age, not the experience
My leaves show my growth
They glow with emotional knowledge
Their ubiquitous shape and colors
Show a separation of my brain
Are they clashing or cooperating?
They are influenced by the foliage around me
Flowers among flowers, but which are roses?
Whose thorns hurt me?
And which weeds can’t I let go of?
My umbrage can’t decide
Sooner or later it won’t matter
I’ll pick a path and be carried away
To a new field, on a new day
I’m a tree
Still standing in unfamiliar field
I yearn to move on and explore
However, I know I’m rooted here
No matter how far the winds lead me
I’ll always be rooted
My roots never change but I do
If you strip my bark you’d see
The rings tell the age, not the experience
My leaves show my growth
They glow with emotional knowledge
Their ubiquitous shape and colors
Show a separation of my brain
Are they clashing or cooperating?
They are influenced by the foliage around me

And which weeds can’t I let go of?
My umbrage can’t decide
Sooner or later it won’t matter

To a new field, on a new day
