do you believe in love?
i did.

when you wish upon a star

by rain

if you believe it, really, truly believe it, it shall be.

do you believe in love?

i did.

i believed in it so truly, so purely, so fucking much.

and it was real.

at least she said it was.

but when she was crying and i held her, she liked to whisper the doubt she had that she was in love.

and when i was alone and broken, a shattered wine glass on that white kitchen counter, where was she?

do you believe in love?

i believed in it so truly, so purely, so fucking much,

that i believed into existence something that wasn't there.

but the glass pieces never got cleaned. instead it slit papercuts into my throat and i was screaming salty oceans and no one heard and love didn't exist to save me.

love is dust where there are only shadows.

if you believe in it, it is true.

but love is only the absence of reality.

that is, after all, what shadows have always been.

You were pretty hard on love. This was a morosely sad poem without seeping into cloying self pity. Your written imagery was vivid. Great job!!!!!
