Mocha Caramel Toffee Almond Dream

on the back of our ancestors,

do we stand and strive for the cream.

The precipice of success,

equality as a whole.

On the back of our ancestors,

do we fight for Dr. King’s goal.

After Sojourner Truth escaped

and she fought for an unfair fate,

before the stakes were caped

in an Underground Railroad.

Harriet Tubman had to create

a means to stay safe

for the Toffee

for the Toffee Almond

for the Toffee Almond Dream,

a fight for salvation

and a means to be free.

If oppression was liberation.

The history of a nation

From the chains to segregation

to the hatred in separation.

Only love is the indication

and a means to find an unyielding spark.

Since it took for Rosa Parks

who stood up for her heart

to inevitably start a freedom march

for the Mocha, Caramel, Cream,

and for the souls that needed the dream.

Hoping to find love and unity in a place built on a divide.

Only to see beyond our eyes

and find

where hatred truly lies.

As the woes of history unwind

and we find ourselves

in loose, bitter strings spent by time

in a nation’s design to divide

and conquer

the Mocha Caramel Toffee Almond Dream

A dream of unity in hopes of finding peace.

I ask myself today,

what day will we see this piece breach past the realm of belief?

To see

a oneness of all colors,

all shades and creams.

Just to melt together

and as one become a treat.
