May 10, 2018, Prompt: Deadline

WHAT AM I?

I am many things, and you may count the ways if it helps you to figure this out.

I am many things, and you may count the ways if it helps you to figure this out. I have a glass ceiling.

You can see the world is greener on the other side, but if you break it, the glass will cut you.

You can see the world is greener on the other side, but if you break it, the glass will cut you. And you can’t even afford to sew up your wounds.

You can see the world is greener on the other side, but if you break it, the glass will cut you. And you can’t even afford to sew up your wounds. You’d be able to, if you just get to the other side.

You can see the world is greener on the other side, but if you break it, the glass will cut you. And you can’t even afford to sew up your wounds. You’d be able to, if you just get to the other side. ‘Hard work’, they call it.

Will you bleed out first?

Will you bleed out first? Or will you stay, because it’s safer where you are?

I’ll give you a bigger hint:

I’ll give you a bigger hint: Your very life is measured by me,

I’ll give you a bigger hint: Your very life is measured by me, and you measure your life by me.

I’ll give you a bigger hint: Your very life is measured by me, and you measure your life by me. You are all in wanting, and those who are not

have simply lost hope in me.

have simply lost hope in me. You still fantasize about me.

I am success. I am trophies.

I am success. I am trophies. I am the white picket fence,

I am success. I am trophies. I am the white picket fence, the happy family,

I am success. I am trophies. I am the white picket fence, the happy family, the big house,

I am success. I am trophies. I am the white picket fence, the happy family, the big house, the fat money.

I, am the unobtainable American Dream,

I, am the unobtainable American Dream, drowned underneath an American Nightmare.

And now that you know, you must ask the bigger question:

And now that you know, you must ask the bigger question: How can you catch me?

And now that you know, you must ask the bigger question: How can you catch me? You try long and hard to pretend “it” doesn’t exist, but I must remind you. Time is running short, and “it” is coming for you.

Life is a deadline, my friend,

Life is a deadline, my friend, and death your slavemaster.

And when the time comes, I will measure your worth

And when the time comes, I will measure your worth by the accomplishments attached to your name when you breathe your last breath.
