I wrote this piece in a slightly bitter state as the disappointment of teenage love finally came to me as expected. I find love riddled with irony, which prompted this metaphor of an iron ore mine.

Love is a mine

Love is a mine -Poetato

I've seen my fair share of irony

I've seen my fair share of irony Heard stories of oaths made for undying dedication to love

I've seen my fair share of irony Heard stories of oaths made for undying dedication to love Only to find the shattered fragments of a broken marriage

I've seen my fair share of irony Heard stories of oaths made for undying dedication to love Only to find the shattered fragments of a broken marriage Forming distorted reflections of what once upon a time was

Had friends who regularly give relationship advice to others

Had friends who regularly give relationship advice to others Come to me asking what to do with their own relationship

Me, who has not until recently given love so much as a single thought as more than a temporary spark in our teenage years

Me, who has not until recently given love so much as a single thought as more than a temporary spark in our teenage years Me, who has taught myself to shut myself to the doors of emotion and to distance myself from the people who I suspect I like

I have had the person who I like

I have had the person who I like Send me her own writings of jealousy

I have had the person who I like Send me her own writings of jealousy How she feels jealous of the person who her crush likes

Yet, in the gesture she had assumed was kind and friendly

Yet, in the gesture she had assumed was kind and friendly With the innocent intention to share her pieces with a friend who writes as well

I feel the stinging, unintended, pain of rejection and of lost chances to win her heart

I feel the stinging, unintended, pain of rejection and of lost chances to win her heart And yes, perhaps a wave of jealousy

I almost laugh at the irony

I see love as an iron ore mine

I see love as an iron ore mine That has long been abandoned and maintained poorly

I see love as an iron ore mine That has long been abandoned and maintained poorly Some will find value in what they extract from the mine

Many will perish as it caves in with the occasional landslide and the frequent collapsing of walls and ceilings

Many will perish as it caves in with the occasional landslide and the frequent collapsing of walls and ceilings The last thing some of these people will see will be the faint glimmer of the irony of love

Perhaps that is why

Perhaps that is why The blood that is pumped from the heart

Perhaps that is why The blood that is pumped from the heart Like the shots we shoot in the pursuit for a relationship

Will always have a metallic taste of iron
