Breaking a promise is always bad.

by fueled by dreams

Do you want to hear a secret?

Are you sure?

It's a really important secret.

Something that could shatter me to pieces if anyone heard.

Promise you won't tell?

Okay. You seem trustworthy

After all, we're friends right?

You'd never break a promise would you?

Would you? Can i really trust you?

Okay..you're right, i'm being paranoid. You'd never be so

Heartless right?

Okay, here goes. Promise not to tell anyone okay?

A long time ago, someone did something to me,that i'll never forget. I need to tell you because i trust you, what happened was....

You promised

You said you wouldn't tell

How could you hurt me like that?

I thought we were friends

I thought you said I could trust you

I'm sorry...i shouldn't have yelled

I probably shouldn't have told anyone.....you're right,i shouldn't have said anything at all....

I'll go now

Can i trust anyone anymore?

If someone comes and tells you something of upmost importance like the person in the story. Don't go blabbing to someone else. It might have taken a lot of courage for them to tell you.

You don't know how breaking that promise will affect someone. You could damage their already weak trust in others. You have no idea how the people you tell will act towards the victim.

You could push them off a cliff that you wouldn't wish for anyone to fall off of.

When you promise someone something. Keep that promise, and in the end, they may one day be confident enough to tell someone else. Your job,is to be there for them. Not to go tell someone

your new juicy, and possibly scandalous gossip.

If the person who told you is angry, and even stops talking to you because they no longer trust you don't get angry at them,

They shouldn't have to apologize for being angry,or for not telling you sooner, they have every right to be hurt. A promise was broken.

Your job then is to take their pain, and anger in stride, and apologize. Even if they don't accept your apology

sometimes the simple thought that you felt bad enough to apologize

Is enough

Breaking a Promise can be heart breaking.

Don't break your promise.

I grew up in a generation where your word defined you. There were scoundrels around but they were reviled not elected or otherwise lionized like today's celebrities. I was out of college when I signed my first contract. Your word and a hand shake could seal a million dollars deal. I served in a military unit that was beyond top secret. We carried a hand grenade to blow ourselves up in case of capture. Y'all can demand that behavior if you have the courage to insist on loyalty, integrity, and courage.

So many people should read this. I know how difficult it can be to trust others, and that's just from observing their behaviors. Once you confide in someone and they break a promise, that makes having faith in other people's abilities to be trustworthy slowly diminish. Another great post!
