If those voices inside my head caused shivers and goosebumps, listening to her voice out loud made my heart stop.
She was standing there, near her window, holding a glass of wine, wearing her favourite black bedgown... Just like... Just like the last time I saw her.
I thought I'd never have that sight.
"I know this must be difficult for you. Believe me, it's even harder for me."
I still couldn't say anything. It was too hard to think.
"Ye... Yeah. Thanks."
As she came closer with a glass for me, I felt my whole body shaking.
"Here you are. Maybe it's going to help you talk to me again."
"Tha... Thanks. I guess I needed it."
"I believe it told you why I need your help."
"Yes. Is it the only way?"
"It is. They have spoken to me. I must go."
"I can't believe..."
"I thought I'd never see you again."
"Don't worry. It's going to be the last time."
"But I don't want it to be."
"Last time we saw each other, I believe you had a different point of view."
"I was... Confused. I was... hurt."
"So was I."
She returned next to her window, looking at the moon.
"I made one mistake, Vivian. One mistake that was only ever meant to protect you and, in return, all you did was hurt me in every way imaginable."
"I'm sorry...I didn't understand things clearly back then."
"Do you now?"
"I don't know... I think better than I did before."
I drank the whole glass of wine she gave me. I needed all the strength I could get to say what I wanted to.
"I didn't know how to deal with the fact that you are a sorcerer. That you have powers. That you can cast spells. That you can make animals talk inside my head.
I wasn't ready to know that you are one of the last sorcerers in your world and that you have some ancient spirits inside you... and that they could take control of your body and do things...
And you kept it from me! You let me discover it all by myself!"
"I know. That was my mistake."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was trying to protect you. From them. If you knew too much, they would come after you."
"I'd have protected you."
"Really? Because as soon as you discovered who I really was, instead of confronting me about my mistake of keeping it from you, you decided to sleep with as many girls as possible."
There was silence.
And it hurt.
