I close my eyes and think about the past. War. Bloodshed. Violence. Was beauty a hidden witness to all this horror?

THE AESTHETICS OF WAR

HEARING THE GENTLE SIGHS OF THE WIND AND THE WAVES KISSING THE SANDY SHORE

REMINDS ME OF A TIME WHERE I WASN'T EVEN BORN INTO THIS WORLD JUST YET

A TIME WHEN BEAUTY WAS ENGULFED BY PAIN AND DESPAIR

A TIME WHEN MEN KISSED THEIR WIVES WITH A TEARFUL FAREWELL AT THE DOOR

A TIME WHEN JOYOUS MUSIC ON THE PHONOGRAPH PLAYED OVER THE HORRORS OF DEATH AND ASSAULT

A TIME WHEN A CHILD WIELDED A DANGEROUS WEAPON INSTEAD OF THEIR FAVORITE TOY

A TIME WHEN THE HANDS OF POETS AND ARTISTS TOOK AIM AND PULLED THE TRIGGER

A TIME WHEN DANDELIONS BLOOMED WITHOUT HESITATION AMIDST THE WAILS OF THE INNOCENT

A TIME WHEN THE SUN AND MOON SHONE OVER THE FIELDS DEVOID OF CROPS AND HARVEST

AND A TIME WHEN CHOCOLATE AND CIGARETTES WERE A SOURCE OF SURVIVAL DURING THE UNMERCIFUL WINTER SEASONS

AND AS I CLOSE MY EYES, I THINK ABOUT WHETHER THE CALM WIND AND THE DEEP OCEAN WERE ONCE WITNESSES TO ALL THESE
