A Lover’s Loss

A door slams,

An engine reves,

Tires squeal into the dark december night.

He’s not coming back this time,

I can feel it in my quivering shadow.

But that’s okay because I can’t linger much longer.

The winds howl, calling me back home

One day he will know it wasn’t his fault,

But not until he drinks his way back to me.
