I met Loneliness at the shore yesterday And she asked me, Why are you sad?
Of course I am sad, I protested angrily The things you see are all so impermanent
The waves charge at its zenith only to break apart
The warmth of the sun fades
The light fails and then a blanket of darkness takes over
She laughed and asked with a sly smile Then try to picture a ship on the sea with all the waves erect
She stared, I chuckled, I giggled And then we burst off in a paroxysm of joy
Meanwhile the waves keep crashing harder and harder from beneath my feet But I pay them no mind
You're right loneliness, you're right
So why are you sad?
Because a ship can sink
And so she stayed with me and I with her as we watch
And so she stayed with me and I with her as we watch the waves crash
And so she stayed with me and I with her as we watch the waves crash, the sun setting
And so she stayed with me and I with her as we watch the waves crash, the sun setting and the ships sailing over the horizon
