My first serious poem, a bit sad but sad is what I do best. Feedback is always appreciated. 💗

Mirror

I am like a bathroom mirror

I am like a bathroom mirror Alone and forgotten

I am like a bathroom mirror Alone and forgotten In a derelict gas station

I am like a bathroom mirror Alone and forgotten In a derelict gas station My surface marred and cracked by life

I peer out through the scars

I peer out through the scars Desperately wishing to assimilate

I peer out through the scars Desperately wishing to assimilate But only creating tawdry reflections

I peer out through the scars Desperately wishing to assimilate But only creating tawdry reflections Pale imitations of happiness

I am like a cactus

I am like a cactus Barricaded behind my wall of thorns

I am like a cactus Barricaded behind my wall of thorns Each point a repulsive barb to the world

I am like a cactus Barricaded behind my wall of thorns Each point a repulsive barb to the world Each layer of thick skin a shield-wall

My roots dig deep into dusty ground

My roots dig deep into dusty ground Far from judgment or expectation

My roots dig deep into dusty ground Far from judgment or expectation Instinct grows my thorns longer

My roots dig deep into dusty ground Far from judgment or expectation Instinct grows my thorns longer Guarding the pale reflection inside
