excerpt from a song I wrote about mental illness

hospital

by nicolecafarelli

i can hear voices telling me

"we are all you need"

I can hear a whisper telling me

"my name is 417"

I can hear voices telling me

"don't take your medication"

I can hear a whisper telling me

"all you need to do is kill them"

This was an excellent glimpse into the broken brain of a schizophrenic. This needed to be written. My mother was schizophrenic and I recognized from early childhood that what made sense to me made no sense to her and vice versa. People would turn to me and ask, "Why did she do that?" I used to tell them, you will never understand.
