First Glance - A poem about human connection and resilience

Thursday afternoon, Darkness laced the street Little did I know You and me, We would meet.

Both of us working, Your music filled the air, I could not focus How could I, come on, Let’s be fair.

Our eyes did meet, In that moment I got lost, Across the street I could see you, But for me, at what cost

You see, I haven’t been lucky, All the boys that I’ve met, Have had issues and problems I’d rather forget.

So when we both finished work And finally did speak Not a clue did you have, That someone like you I do seek.

For you shook my hand And our exchange was brief Because in that moment in time fear was a thief.

So I turned and I walked Not looking back A sense of calm overtook me, For faith in the universe I don’t lack.

If in the future, Our paths, should they cross I shall speak with more courage For those boys, they were lost!
