Yep, it's true! Want your pupper to make cute and adorable faces? The answer is to just spend more time with your puppy!!!
Dogs, like humans, are looking for attention and attention leads to more facial expressions!
The new study at the University of Portsmouth's Dog Cognition Center tested how dogs' expressions changed based on if a human was facing them or looking away from them.
They measured muscle movements on the dogs' faces and found that dogs were much more expressive when humans were facing them.
A control was also done with food to see if the human was the real reason for the facial expressions.
So yes, dogs use expressions to communicate and use them more when you're looking!
More science is being done with our friends dubbed "man's best friend" and I'm sure more adorable research will be reported!
In the meantime, pay attention to your dog and enjoy those puppy dog eyes!
