I’m Alive

Down from the depths I crawl
Scraping my knees
Wiping mud from my face with bloodied knuckles
My hair is as a whirlwind flying in all directions
I roar like a lion from the African wild
I am not who I once was before strong stories

Overcoming struggles with overwhelming resilience, power, and strength.

I’m Alive Down from the depths I crawl Scraping my knees Wiping mud from my face with bloodied knuckles My hair is as a whirlwind flying in all directions I roar like a lion from the African wild I am not who I once was before

Trampled into the dirt by cruel humanity No, I’ve become a force to be reckon with Dust covers my tattered clothing This is finally the end The old me is dead I stagger through tunnels And wander through dark caves Yet I feel no fear

All the things that tried to destroy me Are now buckling at their knees They didn’t think I’d fight back Im still alive I look into my reflection in the water I’m still alive I’ve been beaten to a pulp I’ve been left for dead in the wilderness

But I’m still alive I look up into the morning sky And for a moment I have a connection with the sun The sunlight grazes across my broken body I am healed There’s a new spark in these brown tired eyes And I’m alive

My mane on my head now neatly placed From a healing that I did not deserve My face is clean, I am clean So when the tormentors come back for me I am well equipped with weapons formed from my tongue

And my fists fight all evil around me But I’m still alive I’m alive I’m alive -Nellie Aliyah
