when sunshine takes it's leave,
you're left with only you, just a little imprint in the darkness,
a small figure surrounded by shadows.
when the sun dips below the horizon line,
you have to face the darkness,
the darkness surrounding you,
surroundings suddenly more alien in the moonlight,
and the darkness inside,
for the dark makes everything infinitely more vulnerable.
but the moon and stars are keeping watch over you,
and maybe it's okay to face the ugliness inside.
maybe it's not ugliness at all,
simply a part of you,
like the color of your eyes or the length of your stride.
so you take a breath
and carefully open up your chest,
carefully stripping away locks and chains
and caution tape,
