Being an alligator disguised as a human was easier than you would think.
I was the first allitrator (alligator infiltrator), the first to walk amongst humans without getting spotted or recognized. It started out small. A trip to the mall, a walk by the beach.
At first, we couldn't grasp how easy it was. The humans weren't aware that I was an alligator and not a human.
We started to become more daring, testing how far we could go before anyone noticed and that's where we went wrong.
Though I had very little qualifications compared to a lot of humans, it wasn't too difficult to get a job in the local deli store.
All I had to do was being a cashier and make sure everything ran smoothly throughout the day. Sometimes I had to put wares on the shelves and other minor stuff.
It went wrong when I started to get along with the other employees. There was this one kid, Garret. He was much older than me, almost 18 when we worked together.
The most unusual about Garret was his language. He always said odd stuff that I had never heard before. I always tried to play it off. I was a fool when I let us become closer and closer.
He was the human I had spoken most to in my time as human. We had the closing shift together on Wednesdays, and this Wednesday nothing was out of the ordinary.
I counted the money at the register and Garret was in the back, shutting off the lights and so on.
After putting on the alarm and locking the doors we parted. Just as I was about to walk around the corner he yelled “See you later, alligator.” I froze looking back at him with wide eyes.
He had figured it out, my cover was blown.
That was the last time any alligator dared disguising itself as a human.
