She felt a shiver go up her spine as she looked around the faintly lit room. “Hello?” An uneasy silence followed, broken by another softer Thump. “Who’s there?” She asked, her hands shaking.
She took a deep breath, then stepped forward to see better.
Tiana gasped as something knocked her flashlight out of her hands. She tried to see where the door was by turning around, but it wasn’t there.
The short flight of stairs that were slightly lit by the cracks of light coming from the door were dark, almost invisible.
“Who are you?” She called out, backing up slowly, unsure of which way the stairs were.
Cold hands took her by the shoulders from behind. She screamed, but one of the hands were clapped over her mouth to mute it. “No one you need to know, yet.
” Came a deep, gruff voice from behind her. She could hear it clearly, recognizing the voice as a man, but couldn’t tell who it was.
The man let go of her shoulder, but took a tight hold of her hand. “Miss Byrne, you can call me The Collector.”
Tiana felt the cold hands gripping her arms as she drifted out of consciousness, collapsing in a heap on the floor.
