The river is hundreds of feet wide,
and a murky brown from the silt,
but for the hint of blue reflected sky.
The current swift, but the waves calm.
The banks covered with trees and shrubs,
there is greenery all around me.
In the distance, mountain peaks,
some are still capped with snow.
The air is warm here though,
heated by the golden sunlight.
Waves lap gently against the boat.
A comfortable breeze is blowing.
Other vessels speckle the water,
most anchored, lines in for fish.
A few move slowly along, traveling.
That is not why I am here.
I am looking at the mountains,
scanning the plants on the shore,
feeling the light rocking,
and soaking up the daylight.
My boat is small but stable,
I have nowhere else to go,
and no pressing needs,
so I will sit in the river a while.
