I walk along the paved trail,
ships are entering the bay,
waves crash on the rocky shore,
bicyclists out for a ride, benches.
A couple sits, snuggled, happy.
The sunset is beautiful,
looking out over the ocean,
with a bridge in front of the sun.
A little further along, I walk down,
I approach the water, and listen.
Closing my eyes, waves, gulls,
the distant hoots of sea lions.
I walk again, back to the path.
The air is cooling, I draw my coat.
A small dirt trail, I explore,
I find houses, miniature,
with large wild cats living,
disturbed by my interruption.
I watch for a moment, then leave.
Returning to where I came,
the warm sun on my neck,
I love these walks, in Astoria.
