An apocalyptic narrative poem. "Our Last Sunset," is one of my better Narratives......We watch the sunset and hope....

Our Last Sunset?

Our Last Sunset? By: Mike Mezz (Narrative Poetry)

The clock ticks close to zero The machines are unchained While fear builds inside us We can't just hide away

Our leaders tell us to trust Saying there's nothing to fear Yelling "shelter is a must" As they try to steer clear

But we watch the sunrise alone Has peace collapsed? We watch the sunrise and hope That it won't be our last

Waiting for the firestorm When will the atoms split? We are being warned An attack is now imminent

We've seen all the signs Can't leave our hearts behind Worthless leaders decide In sealed bunkers they hide

So we watch the sunrise alone Our final chance? We watch the sunrise and hope That it won't be our last

Hatred swirls all around While all diplomacy dies Death falls from the clouds Because of government lies

Down at ground zero A shattered earth will cry There can be no heroes Now that the missiles fly

So we watch the sunset alone Our hands grasp We watch the sunset and hope That it won't be our last

You say with passage of time The harrowing days will pass But how can we forget? Learning nothing from the past

Will the dead understand While they lie in their graves? Are the end of days at hand? As all compromise faded away

As we watch the sunset alone Societies collapse We watch the sunset and hope That it won't be our last

We watch the sunset alone Our final chance? We watch the sunset and hope That it won't be our last
