GIVING UP

by michaelschulze

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I KNOW ABOUT ME

SMOKING 80 A DAY GIVE UP YOU SAY JUST CUT BACK A FEW

SMOKING 100 A DAY THROUGH THE SMOKES AWAY

STILL DON'T SMOKE TODAY

A DRINKER YOU SEE YES THAT WAS ME DRUNK EVERY DAY

THROUGH THE ALCOHOL AWAY

STILL SOBER TODAY

LIVING WITH PAIN DRUGS HELP TAKE THE PAIN AWAY AND I DON'T MEAN WHAT I SAY THROUGH THE DRUGS AWAY

STILL DRUG FREE TODAY

SAD EVERY DAY NO HEART LEFT TO PLAY WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE

TAKE THAT PAIN AWAY

Thank you for sharing this. It is uplifting hopeful and positive. My son has been through all of the above for the past 10 years. He has been to detox 16 times and rehab habitually during that time. He is bipolar, with vast mood swings and a sociopath. If you give me permission, I will send this to him. I think this poem which you so perfectly rhymed and metered would be a boon to anyone struggling. You, sir, are a tremendous talent. Many of the young people on this site need your input both in poems and comments.
