You can call me Annie Morgan, Nicole Diaz, Brenda Stewart, or as I am known in this city, Zoe Barnes.
There is not much to know about me. Mom is dead, father ran away with my money, and my brother is living with my grandparents. Me, I live one day at a time and I try not to be killed by the guy my father owes money to.
It turns out that that debt was transferred to me, not that I had any say in it. And I kind of scam people to pay it.
The problem was when I stole the wrong person and ended up taking a job so I wouldn't be arrested. What I least expected was all the shit that was going to hit me, and on top of that, that I would have to face my fears and insecurities.

Something Stolen

$1,657, that was all that was in my bank account. I was nowhere near getting the eighteen thousand dollars I still owed. No, not me... my father.

Just thinking about it I felt my blood boiling. This was a lesson to learn that I should not trust anyone and that I am absolutely alone.

Taking a deep breath, I entered a high-class restaurant through the entrance of employees, a few days ago I had gotten a job as a waitress,

but I already knew that I couldn't stay there until the end of the week.

In the short time I worked here I could very well say that they only had two types of customers: those who thought they were superior to the restaurant employees,

and those who shamelessly hit on the waitresses because they thought they should accept it as a compliment.

Of course, there were unicorns (those who treated us like human beings), but as the name says, they were very rare.

"Zoe, you're fifteen minutes late! Walk in right now before I get your tips." As soon as I heard the manager yelling at me, I put on my apron and ran to meet customers who arrived for lunch.

Taking note of everything that happened around me, I headed for the tables that were under my responsibility.

"Good afternoon, my name is Zoe and I will be attending you today." I forced my best smile before handing them the menus. "Today's special is the Mouclade Charentaise.

The mouclade is a dish based on Bouchot mussels, cooked with garlic, cream, eggs, aromatic herbs and not to mention the region's excellent wine: Pineau des Charentes."

Before I could say anything more, the couple dismissed me with just a wave of the hand. "I'll let you think about it and be back in a few minutes."

It was always like that, if I didn't know better, I could say that I was invisible to these people, which was great for me.

When people think you're not worth a second of their time, it's extremely easy to steal their watches, wallets, bracelets, rings, or anything else of value, which was exactly why I was here.

If I could get enough this week, next month I would be a long way from here and debt-free.

Looking around me again while filling the glasses with water, I noticed a gentleman who came here every day. At least every day since I started working here, which wasn't even a week ago.

But what really caught my attention was his watch. If I could get my hands on him, I wouldn't need anything else.

It was worth enough to cover half of the debt, which would make me comfortable for a few weeks.

That's how I decided that he would be my target.

I could use the Change Rising trick, but it only works if he uses money to pay the bill, and knowing how expensive this restaurant is he would probably use his credit card, and after all,

he was not part of my attending area.

Looking at the objects within my reach, I had an idea, the mustard dip would be the easiest. I reached for a tray with two ramequins and went straight to him.

When I felt the tray colliding with the man's shoulder, I changed my expression to surprise and frighten. "I'm sorry, sir. This is all my fault! Let me help you clean your jacket.

" Before he could answer, I was already taking off your coat and taking advantage of the chaos to get his watch without him even realizing it. "I'll get it cleaned up as soon as possible."

I couldn't hear any response before I left for the kitchen door, I just handed the jacket over to the first waiter I found and gave him instructions to clean it and return it to the owner.

Going out the back door as fast as I could without attracting attention, I could only feel the weight of the object in my pocket.

That was it.

This watch would get me out of debt faster than I thought and finally, for the first time in six years, I could start my life in peace,

without having to subject myself to tricks to get money or keep looking over my shoulder all the time. I could find a steady job, a house, and maybe one day Noah could come and live with me.

But it was late, and I would only be able to paw the watch tomorrow, I might as well go back to the motel now and pack my things to get out of this city as soon as possible.

That's what I did.
