A poem about feelings I have, growing up with indigenous blood in a western world. Feel free to leave feedback! I’m only getting back into writing now after a 10 year gap.

Tar churns ominously Deep down Deeper In the pit of my stomach I swallow hard To stop tar vomit Spilling from my pursed mouth

Swallow again To bury it deeper Examine empty hands To make sure I haven’t filled them Swallowing, swallowing Today I am achieved Have tamed the tar Bubbling hot Blistering inside

I am waiting for the day When words said cut too much Too deep Slice like a knife into my belly Dragged along with careless intentions Like gutting a fish And let all the tar Pour from me And envelop This whole wide world
