I sighed at the familiar face that rippled across remnants of slumber
that ended as soon as the sun seeped through and coaxed my dozing eyes.
I groaned at the sight of chaos in the disarray of unwashed tresses and the shadows draped over my eyes,
souvenirs of my sleepless nights.
But I never did say this out loud.
it drowned in the isolating waves of stiff upper lips and restless eyes,
a saltwater sea between unmoved isles.
