You painted on a smile,
and it drew me in like a moth to a flame.
I danced around your golden light
as your laughter carried on its tune.
But then the rain called out to you.
I offered you my outstretched hand
and asked that we run for cover.
But I guess, the thunder drowned out my pleas.
I watched as the streaks flowed down your face,
wiping away your borrowed smile.
You held onto your bottled-up storm
as you continued to play tricks in the light
But now, you're fading fast
For you see, their darkness betrayed you.
