They see the solitary Evergreen, constant and unchanged
while the fallen have all wilted in the Winter.
They cut it down as if it's rightful tradition to fell a tree - or maybe a million -
and call it a seasonal decoration.
And though it's stumped, uprooted, no longer in its home -
it tries to keep its verdant visage though what's the use?
When the carols fade away, and the twinkling lights go dim,
the Evergreen will fall once more just like it always does each year.
So little one, savor the earth.
Take comfort in the warmth of solid ground.
Don't let those lights blind you when you're all fully grown.
You're majestic even when unadorned.
