About things going poorly

If Today were tomorrow

If today were tomorrow Life would be devoid of sorrow For my aching hands would reap The seed it sowed through a weep

It would be a merry day If-in the greener grass- I lay Without worry in sight All darkness turned into light

It would be great indeed Friends would lack nothing they need And no more would I borrow If only today were my tomorrow

Yet as the sun drew the dawn Today was no longer my own And the green grass was still hay Alas! Tomorrow was today
