The father woke up abruptly in the middle of the night.
Most nights it was just for the usual bathroom breaks, which seemed to increase as he grew older, but this time the reason for his awakening was very different.
He heard soft whining coming from his daughter’s room.
As he moved through the corridor and approached his daughter’s bed, his eyes slowly got used to the darkness surrounding him, enabling to observe a small figure covered in sheets.
Approaching the figure and slowly removing the sheets, the father observed his daughter sobbing and in tears.
- “Hey honey what’s going on?” said the father as he gently tried to comfort her
- “Dad...I think there is a monster in the closet” she whispered softly in her father’s ear.
- “Oh honey, how many times have I told you that monsters don’t exist. They are just in your head.
Look I’m going to open the closet and show you its empty, then you promise you go back to sleep?”
The daughter lightly shook her head.
The father gave his daughter a comforting smile as he the father approached the closet, about to show his daughter it was empty, when suddenly he started to hear small noises.
After gently opening the closet, the horrified father’s face turned pale white as he observed the small creature curled up in its own arms: it was his own daughter,
sobbing and whispering: “Dad...I think there is a monster in my bed”
