Another poem/microfiction story about homelessness, survival, and winter.

Salvation

he shivered and shook nearly naked and broke surviving the streets in the dead of winter

he pleaded and begged desperate for food and a bed with ice in their hearts they turned him away

salvation came once and awhile soup kitchens, churches, charitable smiles a simple dream to live a few more hours

found in the back of stores sleeping in garbage on back alley floors every sunrise a miracle

he faded and walked into the light guardian angel offering new life his prayers finally answered

since that day he helps his brothers he feeds them and gives them shelter he knows they earned another chance

"To save a life is a real and beautiful thing. To make a home for the homeless, yes, it is a thing that must be good; whatever the world may say, it cannot be wrong." - Vincent Van Gogh
