A shortish poem about a relationship. Year challenge.

July 4th

By Maria Okumura

July 4th-

fireworks

a late night

bright lights

and his eyes

his eyes on me all night

then the moon disappears

so do those eyes

August 5th-

Midday

Smelly animals

popcorn

hundreds walking every which way

and those eyes again

staring right at me

this time he stays

September 20th-

Evening

The aroma of fine dining

the clinking of forks

his deep blue eyes

still watching me

even after a month

he still wont look away

December 25th-

Wrapping paper everywhere

candies

laughter

his eyes

his smile

its perfect

everything is perfect

March 20th-

Crisp air

buds on every bush, tree and flower

the sun pouring down

his eyes are nowhere in sight

water leaks from mine

Where is he?

I'm all alone again

May 1st-

A cold room

bleak walls

stale air

he's not here

he won't be here ever again

I hate him

but I miss him too

July 4th-

fireworks

a late night

bright lights

and his eyes

his eyes on me all night

then the moon disappears

so do those eyes
