you’re spinning me around the ballroom floor reciting love poetry into my ear
i begin to hear songbirds and the blare of a train i turn the music up and beg you to speak louder
i shift, eyes still closed i dare not open an eye i memorize your moves careful not to blink
i feel the blankets wrap around my torso you’re holding my hand if i twitch you will let go
i let my guards down my eyes open - regret! i can no longer see you i forget your movements
my eyes close quickly but the ballroom is empty i will stay up waiting for you until the music starts again.
