My Online Friend

Nowadays, we hang around more in our cell phones than in real life places. I wouldn't say making friends - or well- talking to strangers online is really safe but we can always stay cautious.

This is a story about how two people became best friends in real life from talking online. (The ending is a surprise)

Ooh, a new text. Is it a simple 'hi?' Or a formal 'hello' Who could be the person? Is it a guy or a girl? Could someone be genuinely thinking about me?

(Another text pops.) Oh, now I'm curious. Opening the text, I saw a simple 'hello' written. How weird was it, That a simple text brought a smile on my face I replied, "hello to you ,too."

(Another one pops.) It said: I loved your story and so I thought what it would feel like talking to you. My smile grew bigger Never in a million years did I think, someone would personally tell this to me. I replied: Why, thank you!

(Another) It said: I really wanna know who I'm talking to. I replied: How does it matter? It said: Because I'm kind of hoping it's a girl. I didn't know what to say. Should I tell I was a girl?

After a few seconds, another text pops. It said: If you're wondering, I would not reveal myself, don't worry. I will. I'm a guy. I was - I don't know the right word for it. I kinda hoped it was a girl. So did he. Was it a risk?

(It is, obviously. What if he's lying?) What if he's not. (A text pops) It said: It's cool if you don't say it. It shouldn't matter. I'm sorry. I was relieved. For a second, I thought he was some creep

I replied: No problem. And the next thing I knew, minutes turned into hours, hours turned into days, days turned into months and all this time we learnt a lot about each other. He was a high schooler So was I He loved football I loved books

He was a jock I was a nerd We never revealed which school we both read in But fate had some other plans

I was sitting on a bench, one day, waiting for the school bus when a guy approached me "Hey, is this seat taken?" I shook my head. He smiled and took a seat beside me. "The name's Castle." He spoke. "Alisha."

We didn't look at each other and we didn't talk much but somehow the silence between us was comfortable Being bored, I took out my phone and started texting my online friend. A notification popped.

But it wasn't on my phone It was his He started texting and so did I My friend told me he was waiting for a bus, sitting on a bench with a beautiful girl. I said: I was sitting on a bench, too! And a handsome guy was sitting beside me

I didn't know why I didn't realize it sooner It said: What's his name?! I replied: Castle! It stopped. So did Castle's excited typing. He froze. "Alisha?"

"Castle?!" We both stared at each other in astonishment. None of us knew the other until we texted. We became best friends over the phone And right now, I didn't know how to talk to him.

After a few seconds.. "Remember how I told you, I was hoping you'd be a girl?" "Yes..." I drawled. "I always knew you were a girl." "How'd you figure that out?" I asked, a puzzled look on my face.

He smiled. "It's the way you talk." I smiled back. He continued. "And I would love to know the girl who- now- has stolen my heart."
