I Pray

Perched by the window

Praying for dawn to arrive

The all-consuming blackness breaks

The town painted, bathed in the curiously green tinge of the heavens

No longer am I swallowed by the dark

The mud covered streets a little less dreary

But still the mud seeps through

Colouring my life one monotonous shade of brown

No longer can I sit and pray

I plan my escape

I’ve been waiting for days- weeks even

Every night I pray that the green dawn won’t break

I beg for the solace of night

Hiding, protecting

I lust over the interiors of the homes

The yellow bathed calm behind the panes of glass

No longer can I walk

Monotonous mud-covered life is all that I desire
